Thanks to the generosity of the late Helen Vipond, the Hawarden Public Library was able to digitize over 1500 slides relating to the history of the community. You are able to search the slides to find information about the people of Hawarden, transportation in the community and the early railroad years, as well as other events and happenings in the community. The source of these slides was the photo exhibit created by the Big Sioux River Valley Historical Society of Hawarden in 1981. Helen and Roy Vipond were supporters of the Hawarden Community. Their generosity to the library enabled the Library Board to create the slide database. Helen, especially, had a keen interest in the history of the community. This slide project will help to share that history.
